N17 Nissan Latio given facelift in Japan, still very awkward

Nissan Japan has given the N17 Latio sedan practically the same facelift that’s been applied to the American Versa.

The updated N17 Latio (above) has been given the same bolder, kinked headlights, Sentra-style grille, and updated tail-lights as the Versa sedan that’s sold in North America. There’s also revised bumpers in the mix.

Like the Versa, these changes do little to solve the car’s awkward proportions. For comparison’s sake, you can see the pre-facelift Latio in the photo gallery below.

In Japan the N17 Latio is available with just one drivetrain: a 58kW/106Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Automatic engine start/stop is standard.

Three model grades are available: S, X, G. Prices start at ¥1.46 million (US$13,400) for the S and a top out at ¥1.79 million (US$18,700) for the top-of-the-line G.
