8S Audi TT Roadster unveiled: 228kW TTS due early 2015

Audi has unveiled the third generation TT Roadster ahead of its public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Like previous generations of the TT Roadster, the new 8S features an electronically operated folding soft-top. The new roof is 3kg lighter than before and tips the scales at just 39kg. It stores itself away in a special aluminium tray, so as not to reduce the 280L worth of boot space any further.

Audi claims that the soft top can open and close in 10 seconds, and works at speeds up to 50km/h. The acoustic top and its thick layer of fleece in the headlining is said to make the car 6dB quieter than before.

Tech available on the new TT and TTS Roadster includes matrix LED headlights, which can block out specific clusters to shield oncoming traffic from headlight glare.

TT Roadster buyers have the choice between a 2-litre turbo-diesel and a 2-litre turbo petrol, while the TTS comes fitted with a more powerful 228kW version of the latter engine and all-wheel drive as standard. The TT rides on 17-inch alloys, while 18-inch wheels are standard on the TTS.

The TT Roadster goes on sale in October in Germany, with prices starting at €37,900. The TTS will enter showrooms from early 2015.
