2021 Kia Sorento: Bold new looks, hybrid powertrains

The 2021 Kia Sorento has a new platform, squarer design, and new powertrain options including turbo hybrid, updated diesel, and plug-in hybrid.

With a new platform designed for hybrid battery packs, interior space isn’t hurt by the inclusion of electrified powertrains.

Kia says its more spacious due to the increased wheelbase and length, and the design is better because the hood is longer and the windscreen base pushed back by 30mm (1.2″) for a cab backward design.

It will also be available with an electrified (hybrid or plug-in hybrid) powertrain, and a new platform. Debuts at the Geneva Auto Show in March.

Three powertrains have been announced so far:

  • 1.6L turbo hybrid I4: 169kW (267hp) and 350Nm (258 lb-ft) total, includes 44.2kW (59hp) electric motor, 1.49kWh lithium ion battery
  • 2.2L turbo-diesel I4: 149kW (199hp) and 440Nm (325 lb-ft) with an 8-speed DCT
  • 2.5L turbo I4: 207kW (280hp) and 421Nm (310 lb-ft) with an 8-speed DCT

It will also be available with a plug-in hybrid.
