Volvo dumps gas engines, going electric only by 2030

Volvo will become the Swedish Tesla, but with less crazy, more class, and all the safety you’re already used to.

Volvo is latest carmaker to announce it will go completely electric after Bentley and Jaguar. By 2030 its engine range will only feature EVs.

The company is working on a new pure EV platform with owner Geely, and continue to develop gas-electric plug-in hybrids for its next and last generation of cars with internal combustion engines.

The new XC90 will be launched this year, and will have mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric powertrain options.
