Honda HR-V: What does its name mean?

The Honda HR-V small SUV is selling up a storm worldwide. If you’ve ever wondered “What does it letters stand for?”, here’s your answer.

Introduced in 1998, the HR-V was a smaller crossover SUV designed to complement the wildly successful CR-V. Its boxy shape and small size proved to be a little ahead of its time, though, and it was discontinued in 2006.

At the launch of the original model, Honda claimed that the letters initially stood for Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle.

The HR-V name was reintroduced in 2015 for a Fit/Jazz-based SUV that again slots in beneath the CR-V. For the current generation, the HR-V is sold in Japan as the Vezel.
