Ford ups production of F-Series, Edge, Escape, Explorer

Ford will reduce its traditional 2-week summer shutdown at plants making many of its SUVs and trucks, including the F-Series, Edge, Escape and Explorer.

Due to the popularity of these models, Ford is reducing its summer shutdown from two weeks to just one. Doing so, the company says that it will be able to produce an extra 40,000 vehicles.

Five car factories, as well as a number of transmission and stamping plants, will also be affected.

Typically the company shuts down its plants in late June, early August to perform routine maintenance and other upgrades.
