$35,000 Tesla Model 3 now available, but almost all stores will close

The long promised entry level US$35,000 Tesla Model 3 is now available, but to get the car’s price down, the company will close most of its dealerships.

The new US$35,000 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range will have an EPA range of 220mi (354km), 0-60mph in 5.6s, and a top speed of 130mph (209km/h).

A new US$37,000 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus will also be available, and it will have an EPA range of 240mi (386km), 0-60mph in 5.3s, and a top speed of 140mph (225km/h). It will also have an upgraded interior.

The company said it was able to offer the US$35,000 model earlier than expected because it has decided to close most of its dealerships, except a few in high traffic areas.

This move is expected to reduce the price of all of Tesla’s cars by about 6%. Without dealerships, the automaker will sell all of its cars online, and allow buyers to return their vehicles for no cost within a week or 1,000mi (1,600km).
