The Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ are back for a new generation. See how similar they are (again) in this side by side comparison.

BRZ

Like the first generation models, the differences between the BRZ and 86 are small, and limited mainly to the front bumper design.

BRZ

The standard BRZ has a more formal appearance with a small grille, and blacked out front splitter. The Toyota is slightly sportier, and has GR badging.

Although the headlight shape is the same, the BRZ has a slightly different LED daytime lighting signature which wraps around to form a C shape.

The new BRZ and 86 are based on the same platform as the original cars, but the wheelbase is longer, and the new BRZ/86 sit closer to the ground. All metal is shared between the two cars.

We can't spot any differences at the rear except for badges.

The taillight graphics may be different, although it could just be the angle the shots were taken at.

BRZ

Both the 86 and BRZ now have a larger 2.4L H4 engine (the old car had a 2L H4), now with 173kW (232hp) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft). A 6-speed manual is standard and a 6-speed auto optional. The 0-100km/h time is 6.3 seconds.

BRZ

In these press cars, the 86 has black wheels, and BRZ has gunmetal gray, but the design is the same.

The dashboard is all new in both cars, and has a larger screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The only differences are trim and badges.
