2022 Toyota 86 vs 2012-2021: 2nd & 1st generation differences & changes

See what’s changed between the first and second generation Toyota 86/GT86/GR86 in this side by side comparison.

2022
2016
The new Toyota GR 86 (and the Subaru BRZ) share the same RWD platform as the OG models, but have a slightly longer wheelbase and a lower roof.
2022
2016
The new front is cleaner with simpler and sportier grille and bumper design. The new headlamps are nice too.
2022
2016
Every exterior panel is different, and the front fenders have a large vertical vent to emphasize power!
2022
2016
The rear has a more dynamic design that's also more anonymous (if that makes sense).
2022
2016
It's mainly down to the new tail-lights, which is a bland. You probably don't need the diffuser, but it's there (again).
2022
2016
The dashboard is all new, and probably has better materials, but the design is still ugly. The infotainment does support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (finally). There's also digital instruments and steering wheel buttons (yes, finally!!)
2022
2016
The engine has grown from 2L to 2.4L. The means more power and (more importantly) more torque. It's still a boxer too, which is good.
