2020 Volvo XC40 Recharge: Stupid name for first EV, awesome specs

The 2020 Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 is the Swedish brand’s first electric car. Based on its cheapest model, the XC40 EV is surprising in many ways.

That name. Why remind everyone about the worst thing about EVs and plug-in hybrids? The long recharge times, even if you’ve got a super fast recharger.

That’s the negative.

The positive? The XC40 Recharge P8 has a powertrain with two motors, AWD, and a total of 300kW (402hp) and 660Nm (487 lb-ft). 0-100km/h is in 4.9s.

The 78kWh battery will have a WLTP range of around 400km (249mi). It supports 150kW DC fast charging, which can top the battery up to 80% in 40 minutes.

It also has a frunk, a new Android infotainment system, and will have a starting price of around US$60,000 before government incentives.
