2018 Buick LaCrosse: New 2.5L mild hybrid, 9-speed auto for V6

The 2018 model year Buick LaCrosse update has a new mild hybrid (eAssist) powertrain that slots in underneath the existing 3.6-liter V6.

The LaCrosse’s new mild hybrid eAssist system has a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine, a small 0.45kWh 86V lithium ion battery, an electric motor for extra power and smoother auto stop/start operation, and a motor generator unit that replaces the alternator.

Mileage is improved by 19 percent over the 3.6-liter V6, which has an EPA highway rating of 31mpg (7.6L/100km).

The V6 gains a new 9-speed auto, and AWD is now available on the Essence trim level.

The eAssist powertrain will be standard on the 2018 LaCrosse, and lowers the starting price to US$30,490 from US$32,065. The 2018 LaCrosse goes on sale in the fall of 2017.
