Subaru’s first electric car teased: SUV due before 2025, maybe not for US

Subaru and Toyota are developing a new platform just for electric vehicles, and it could look like a design concept just revealed at technical presentation.

Toyota and Subaru will develop SUVs based on this new platform, although they will each have unique bodies, unlike the 86/BRZ, which are identical.

The design concept displayed briefly has a low, wide look, blacked out A pillars, and large black cladding for the fenders.

When the SUV goes on sale it will be Subaru’s first all electric vehicle.

Subaru CEO Tomomi Nakamura said it won’t be prioritized for the US as electrified vehicles are tough to sell there, with the Crosstrek Hybrid selling slowly.

“Only Tesla’s EVs are selling well,” Nakamura said.
