R172 Mercedes-Benz SLC: SLK with new face, engine, name

The Mercedes-Benz SLK has been renamed as the SLC, and given a face and butt lift, along with new engines and other features.

Mercedes-Benz has given the SLC (formerly the SLK) a new, smoother corporate nose with new headlights, grille, bumpers, hood and fenders. There’s also new alloys, taillights and rear bumper too.

Under the hood, the engine range has been streamlined with all models, except the range topping SLC43 AMG featuring blown 4-cylinder engines.

The base SLC180 and SLC200 have a standard 6-speed manual, and optional 9-speed auto. The other models come only with a 9-speed auto.

The SLC43 AMG replaces the SLK55 AMG, which had a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 310kW (415hp) and 540Nm (398 lb-ft). With a smaller 3-liter twin-turbo V6 and just 270kW (367hp) and 520Nm (384 lb-ft), it’s slower to 100km/h (4.7s versus 4.1s).
