Peugeot kills plan to return to the USA

In a surprise to no-one, Peugeot will not be returning to the US after it purchasing Fiat Chrysler, and the popular Ram and Jeep brands.

Before merging with Fiat Chrysler to form Stellantis (that name doesn’t get any easier to write), Peugeot was planning to return to the US by the end of the 2020s.

The first stage was to engineer vehicles that were compliant with US regulations, and then introduce them via the company’s Free2Move car hire app. The company would after that begin selling cars directly to the public, skipping out on building a dealership network.

Now that Peugeot (via parent Groupe PSA) owns Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Alfa Romeo, it has no need to return to the US and will instead use its existing brands to keep on bringing in the big bucks.
