Nissan GT-R: Next generation will be a “world’s fastest brick”, and very late

Alfonso Albaisa, head of design for Nissan, has confirmed details about the next generation GT-R, which will still be a brick, and may be electrified.

Albaisa spoke to Autocar at Goodwood 2018, and said the new GT-R will “be its own special car”, and doesn’t care what other supercars are doing.

According to Albaisa, the new GT-R will say, “‘I’m a GT-R, I’m a brick, catch me.’ It’s the world’s fastest brick, really.”

The powertrain and new platform have yet to be sorted out, so the designers have yet to start working on the design, and this means the new GT-R won’t be arriving until sometime in the next decade.

“We are definitely making a new platform and our goal is clear: GT-R has to be the quickest car of its kind. It has to ‘own’ the track. And it has to play the advanced technology game; but that doesn’t mean it has to be electric,” Albaisa said.
