McLaren 570S Sports Series coupe aims for Porsche 911

The new McLaren 570S is designed to take on the Porsche 911, and is the first variant to be revealed from the company’s new, more affordable Sports Series.

Behind the passenger cell is the M838TE 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which generates 562hp (419kW) and 443 lb-ft (600Nm). Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (Seamless-Shift Gearbox or SSG, in McLaren-speak).

The 570S is good for a 0 to 100km/h time of 3.2 seconds, a 0 to 200km/h of 9.5 seconds and top speed of 328km/h (204mph).

More so than the harder-core Super Series (625C, 650S, 675LT) models, the 570S has been engineered to be usable as a daily driver. The front trunk is able to store 150L worth of stuff — the most ever for a McLaren-branded vehicle.

Inside there’s an inviting interior complete with a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, DAB digital radio or Sirius satellite radio, Alcantara or Nappa leather seats, and a standard 8-speaker audio system or an optional 1280W surround sound 12-speaker Bower & Wilkins unit.
