Lotus Elise, Exige and Evora axed, will be replaced by hybrid by 2022

The Lotus Elise, Exige and Evora models are now in their final year of production, and will all be replaced by a new hybrid sports car.

Codenamed Type 131, the new hybrid will go into production late 2021. It will be positioned above the Evora (and by extension the Elise and Exige too), and will be a spiritual successor to the Espirit.

The production name for the Type 131 has yet to be revealed, but should (as is tradition) start with an E. The new sports car will be made at Hethel, UK.

Reports say Type 131 will have an aluminum body, and the Evora’s Toyota sourced 3.5L V6 but paired with a hybrid system.
