Lamborghini

Lamborghini Centenario etymology: What its name means

The Lamborghini Centenario is a limited edition of just 40 €1.75 million hypercars. So what does its name mean and what is it celebrating?

Centenario means centenary in both Spanish and Italian. You might think that this car is celebrating Lamborghini’s 100th birthday, but, no, you’d be rather wide of the mark.

Lamborghini was only established in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, who had made his fortune with his tractor company, Trattori Lamborghini.

The century that the name is alluding to is actually Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birthday of April 28, 1916. The car itself was officially launched at the Geneva Motor Show, which kicked off (officially) on March 1, 2016.

Unfortunately Ferruccio wasn’t on hand to see the car’s launch. He passed away on February 20, 1993.
