Jeep, etc will move onto PSA FWD/AWD platforms after merger

When Fiat Chrysler and the PSA Group merge in 2021, all of FCA’s FWD/AWD vehicles begin moving on PSA’s CMP and EMP2 platforms.

Both of these platforms are newer and lighter than FCA’s FWD/AWD platforms, and support hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains.

Probably the first Jeep to benefit from a PSA platform will be the next generation Cherokee, followed by the Renegade and then the Compass. If there are to be new cars and SUVs for the Dodge and Chrysler brands, they too will use PSA’s platforms.

The carmakers say eventually 66% of its cars will use these two platforms. Other vehicles will use the Ram pickup platform, and other RWD/AWD platforms.
