Hyundai Staria: What does its name mean? – Etymology

The Hyundai Staria is a minivan with a radical design that replaces the Starex/H100/iMax, but where does its name come from?

According to Hyundai, the name Staria combines ‘star’ and ‘ria’, and was chosen because it represents “future-oriented product values and streamlined design characteristics defined by one curve gesture silhouettes as well as clean and pure body volume”.

A star is obvious a massive ball of hydrogen that’s undergoing nuclear fusion to create heat, light, energy and helium.

Ria is an uncommon English word for “a long, narrow inlet formed by the partial submergence of a river valley”. In Spanish it’s a river or an estuary.
