Hyundai and Kia working on dedicated electric car platform

With demand for its electric vehicles, like the electric Niro and Kona EV, high, Hyundai and Kia have begun work on a dedicated EV platform.

At present all of Hyundai and Kia’s electric cars (the Hyundai Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric, and Kia e-Niro) and are built on conventional car platforms, meaning they don’t have the same space benefits as dedicated EVs, like the Tesla Model 3.

“A new platform dedicated to electric vehicles is about two years away,” an anonymous source told Auto Express.

“It will probably focus on B- and C- segment [small to midsize] cars.”

Think of it as an answer to the Volkswagen Group’s upcoming MEB platform, which will make its production debut with the Volkswagen ID Neo hatch later this year.
