GM to be electric only by 2035 for “light duty” vehicles

GM says it now has “an aspiration to eliminate tailpipe emissions from new light-duty vehicles by 2035”.

In a plan developed with the Environmental Defense Fund, GM is developing a new EV architecture, Ultium battery technology, and will launch 30 EVs by 2025.

It will be carbon neutral by 2040 with renewable energy used on all US sites by 2030, and all global locations by 2035.

To get there GM will be “transitioning to battery electric vehicles or other zero-emissions vehicle technology, sourcing renewable energy and leveraging minimal offsets or credits”. It will also invest in EV infrastructure and ensure this will be powered by renewable sources.
