Ford Sync to use Android from 2023, will still have Apple CarPlay

Ford and Lincoln will replace their Sync 4 infotainment systems with new ones powered by Google’s Android operating system and apps.

The new infotainment systems will be rolled out from 2023, and will use Google’s Android operating system instead of QNX by Blackberry. Google’s apps, cloud services, machine learning, and AI will come standard with the new systems.

Ford says its vehicles will continue to support Apple CarPlay.

Ford unveiled its latest Sync 4 system in 2019, and began using it last year in the updated Edge and Mustang Mach-E. Although it has more features, larger screen sizes and other improvements, it has been buggy.
