Ford Fusion: Next generation will be jacked up wagon to rival Subaru Outback

Although Ford US will kill off all its traditional passenger cars, except the Mustang, the Fusion will go into another generation. Just not as a sedan.

A Ford spokesperson told Bloomberg, the Fusion name will probably live on after the current model ends its run at the beginning of the next decade.

Sources told Bloomberg, the new Fusion will likely be a high roof hatch with increased ride height, and will target the Subaru Outback. The new Fusion will be built on a modified version of today’s platform.

In April, Ford stunned the world when it announced it would remove all the traditional passenger cars, except the Mustang, from its US range by the beginning of the next decade.

Driven by a mass exodus to SUVs, Ford will replace these cars with more crossovers. The new Focus will only be sold in the US as the Focus Active with raised suspension, and an SUV look.
