Ford Falcon 325kW XR6 Sprint, 345kW XR8 Sprint announced

The FGX Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint and XR8 Sprint will be the rear-wheel drive sedan’s final limited edition swan song before it heads for the great scrapyard in the sky.

The A$54,990 XR6 Sprint uses a turbocharged 4-liter straight-six with 325kW (436hp) at 6,000rpm and 576Nm (425 lb-ft) at 2,750rpm, with 370kW (496hp) and 650Nm (479 lb-ft) available for ten seconds on overboost.

There’s a larger intercooler, and the FPV F6’s turbo and injectors. Also fitted are 19-inch black alloy wheels, numbered plates, black rear spoiler, dark headlights, indicators in the mirror, new stripes, and Sprint badges everywhere.

The XR6 Sprint is available only with an automatic transmission. Only 550 XR6 Sprints will be made, with 50 reserved for New Zealand.

The A$59,990 XR8 Sprint has a 5-liter supercharged V8 with 345kW (463hp) at 5,750rpm and 575Nm (424 lb-ft) between 2,220 and 6,250rpm. During the 10 seconds of overboost, the V8 can develop a maximum of 400kW (536hp) and 650Nm (479 lb-ft). Available with either a manual (A$55,990) or automatic (A$62,190) transmission.

In terms of equipment, the XR8 Sprint mirrors the XR6 Sprint, but also gains a black roof and side mirrors. 850 XR8 Sprints will be produced, with 100 heading for NZ.

Production of the Ford Falcon is set to cease in October 2016.
