Chevrolet Equinox Diesel axed for 2020 due to low demand

After the whole Volkswagen Dieselgate affair, we’re surprised Chevrolet put a diesel in the US Equinox, but that experiment is now over.

Kevin Kelly, a spokesman for Chevrolet, told The Car Connection, “We did discontinue the diesel engine option in the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox due to low demand.”

The 1.6L turbo diesel was rated at 28mpg (8.4L/100km) city, 38mpg (6.2L/100km) highway, and 32mpg (7.3L/100km) combined. The same engine is offered in the GMC Terrain.

It’s not known if the GMC SUV will continue with the diesel, but it seems unlikely.

The last compact SUV to be available with a diesel option is the Mazda CX-5.
