Buick Avenir sedan not heading for production because Cadillac

The gorgeous rear-wheel drive Buick Avenir sedan, which was revealed at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, is not going into production, it’s been confirmed.

Duncan Aldred, head of Buick and GMC, told Automobile, “We’re not going to build Avenir … We never went into the show with the plan to build it. You’re going to see elements of Avenir in LaCrosse. But the reaction we got last year did stimulate a lot of valuable work, really looking at ‘can we, should we build that car.”

Speculation is that internal competition and politicking from Cadillac was part of the reason that Buick couldn’t build a case for the Avenir.

With Cadillac’s sedan range is struggling in the market, it was argued that it didn’t any internal competition from a lower-priced rival.
