Aston Martin

Aston Martin: Who is it named after? What does its name mean?

Nothing evokes images of jet setting, class and the high life (not to mention Bond, James Bond), quite like Aston Martin. But what does the name actually mean?

Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford established Aston Martin in 1913. The Martin half of the company’s name is clearly a reference to Lionel Martin.

The other part of the brand’s name is a little more obscure. It’s actually named after Aston Hill, in Buckinghamshire, England, where Martin used to race and it’s where the two, reportedly, decided to create their own cars.
