Nissan Qashqai etymology: What does it mean or named after?

The Nissan Qashqai stands out for not only its unique name, but also the fact that despite this, it’s been a been a big success in Europe and Asia.

The Qashqai is named after tribe of Turkic nomads, who now live in Iran and it’s believed that they moved into Persia from Central Asia during the conquests of Genghis Khan. The Qashqai were once fierce warriors, but today they’re most famous for their carpets and wool weaving skills.

Despite living Persian-speaking Iran, the Qashqai have managed to maintain their own language.

In China, the Qashqai’s Chinese name is xiaoke or nomad. According to Nissan this is “consistent with the positioning of Qashqai as an “urban nomad”, which bridges the gap between being a hatchback and an SUV.
