2nd generation Chevrolet Volt: will debut at Detroit 2015, trunk teased

GM has given the world its first sneak peak at the second generation Chevrolet, which it has confirmed will debut at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show being held in early January.

Apart from being more efficient, having a longer electric-only range and not spawning a restyled Opel/Vauxhall Ampera twin, we don’t know a heck of a lot about the second generation Volt.

To pad out its announcement at the Center for Automotive Research’s Management Briefings, Chevy let loose a few details about the current generation Volt (and, we presume, its Ampera sibling):

  • 63 percent of distance covered is in electric-only mode.
  • Over 500 million electric-only miles so far since the car’s in 2010. (That’s at least 805 million kilometres.)
  • At least 25 million US gallons (94.6 million litres) of unleaded petrol saved.
  • Volt owners typically do 970mi (1,560km) between fills and average one gas station visit per month.
