2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI and R to be only variants sold in the US?

Reportedly only the Mark VIII Volkswagen Golf performance models will be sold in the US, meaning the Alltrack, wagon and regular hatch models are out.

A high ranking Volkswagen employee has told Motor1 only the GTI and R versions of the Mark VIII Golf will be sold in the US as they account for 48% of all Golf sales.

Last year Volkswagen sold 42,271, meaning the GTI and R made up around 20,000 of those sales.

With the wagon seemingly off the table, the Alltrack softroader will also disappear.

The Mark VIII Golf will debut in Europe later this year, but sales won’t begin until 2020.
