2021 Kia Optima may be sold as the K5 in the USA

The 2021 Kia Optima is due for a dramatic (and very sexy) redesign, but it may get rid of the well established Optima badge in favor of K5.

According to Motor Authority, Kia has filed to trademark the K4, K5, K6, K7, and K9 names in the US, although its trademark on the K3 lapsed in 2015.

A spokesperson told Motor Authority a global branding committee is deciding on the name for the new sedan in the US.

It could stick with Optima, or go for the K5 name which has been used in Korea since 2010.

The new Optima/K5 is currently being built in Korea for local sale, and will also be made in Georgia for sale in North America.
