2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2016-2020: Changes & differences

The new Grand Cherokee is both familiar and very different. The square fenders and all the Jeep design traits are there, but the sides are flatter and it's all very meh.

The grille is primarily black with chrome rings for the seven slats, and a thick handle at the bottom. The entire front face is so vertical, it looks like its slanted forwards.

The new Grand Cherokee's headlights are LED and even slimmer than the WK2's.

The long wheelbase L comes first for the new Grand Cherokee and the short wheelbase model will arrive late 2021 or early 2022.

The chrome line for the windows follows the top edge before hitting the rear windscreen and going to bottom of the glass, like on the Compass. The thin taillights make the tailgate flat, featureless and bland.

The interior is much more luxurious and upmarket.

Completely digital 10-in instrument display is standard on the new Grand Cherokee L.

The Uconnect 5 infotainment system has a larger 8.4-in or 10.1-in screen.

For the first time the Grand Cherokee will have three rows of seats with a maximum capacity of 7 people.

The trunk is still large even with the third row in place, but the second row doesn't fold completely flat.

The new Grand Cherokee L is available with a 290hp (216kW) 3.6L V6 or 357hp (266kW) 5.7L V8.
