2020 Mitsubishi ASX/Outlander Sport vs 2016-2019: Differences compared

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and ASX have been given a big update for 2020. We put it side by side to the 2016-2019 facelift to see what’s changed.

2016-19
The 2020 update isn't the first facelift for the Outlander Sport/ASX/RVR. The first facelift, for the 2016 model year, had a new grille, bumpers, and C-shaped chrome highlights under the headlights for a 'lite' interpretation of Mitsubishi's new Dynamic Shield design.

The new 2020 Outlander Sport/ASX/RVR goes much further to align the small crossover with the Eclipse Sport and L200/Triton models. Changes include new sharp rectangular headlights, a new bonnet/hood, and a huge pod for the indicators and fog lights. The redesigned front bumper houses a bolder grille design, and thicker and squarer C-shaped matte chrome elements for the shield.

2016-19
No drastic changes to the side of the 2020 Outlander Sport/ASX/RVR, but the side sills have been made a little taller and more sculpted, and the fake vent on the front fender is now much larger and repositioned. New colour options include Red Diamond, Sunshine Orange, and Oak Brown.

2016-19
There are no sheetmetal changes at the rear, but the company has finally updated the tail-light graphics with a red-on-white design. There's now a T-shaped red section, and all the lighting elements, except the indicators, are LED.

Mitsubishi has also removed the chrome garnish about the licence plate, and redesigned the rear bumper with (ugh) fake vents and a squarer bash plate/rear diffuser. It's all needlessly sporty for a crossover. The log light in the middle of the bumper may be a Europe-only feature.

2016-19
There are very few changes to the interior of the ASX/Outlander Sport/ASX.
2020 F/L
2016-19
The most significant is the upgraded Smartphone-link Display Audio system, with the touchscreen increased from 7 to 8 inches. The screen is also mounted flush, and has a light chrome frame in addition to the acres of fingerprint-hungry piano black plastic.

2016-19
The steering wheel and instrument pod look to be unchanged.
