2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe: The less practical midsize SUV returns

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe has a sportier rear end, less trunk space, and a 60mm (2.4″) shorter wheelbase than the GLE SUV.

Although the new GLE Coupe is bigger than the old model, the shorter wheelbase compared to the GLE SUV is said to give the GLE Coupe sportier handling.

At launch there will be a number of powertrains on offer, all with a 9-speed auto.

  • GLE350d 4Matic Coupe: 3L I6 turbo-diesel with 200kW (272hp) and 600Nm (443 lb-ft)
  • GLE400d 4Matic Coupe: 3L I6 turbo-diesel with 243kW (330hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft)
  • AMG GLE53 4Matic Coupe: 3L I6 turbo 48V mild hybrid with 320 (435hp) and 520Nm (384 lb-ft), and electric motor with 16kW (21hp) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft).
