2019 BMW 3-Series to have brand’s most powerful 4-cylinder ever

The next generation G20 BMW 3-Series will be available with the brand’s most powerful 4-cylinder ever, although the M340i and M3 should still have I6 power.

The company has released official spy photos of the car testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, and says it will have “most powerful 4-cylinder engine ever to be fitted in a BMW series production model”.

Currently BMW’s most powerful 4-cylinder is the B48 2-liter turbo I4 with 190kW (255hp).

The new 3-Series will be 10mm (0.4″) lower to the ground than the current F30 3-Series, weigh 55kg (121 lb) less, have a wider track, a stiffer chassis, and retain the 50/50 weight distribution.

The new BMW 3-Series will probably debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in September.
