2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift: New straight-6 and V8 engines

The midlife W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift has redesigned lights, bumpers, wheels, and infotainment screens, and new I6 and V8 engines.


Confirmed new engines for the facelifted S-Class range include:

  • S350d 4Matic: 3-liter I6 turbodiesel with 210kW (286hp) and 600Nm (443 lb-ft), AWD.
  • S400d 4Matic: 3-liter I6 turbodiesel with 250kW (340hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft), AWD.
  • S560 4Matic: 4-liter V8 gas turbo with 345kW (467hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft), AWD.
  • S63 4Matic+: 4-liter V8 gas turbo with 450kW (612hp) and 900Nm (664 lb-ft), AWD.

3-liter I6 gas turbo engines will also be available in the W222 S-Class facelift range.

There will also be a plugin hybrid model with a 48V electrical system, 13.3kWh battery, and an EV range of 50km (31mi).

The adaptive cruise control and active steering systems will now take corners and junctions into account. And the infotainment and instrumentation displays have been upgraded with a seemless look.

The Multibeam LED headlamps now have Ultra Range main beams that go to the maximum legal light intensity. Also new is an Energizing comfort control system that merges together climate control, ambient lighting, massaging and fragrances to improve passenger wellness.

The W222 S-Class facelift goes on sale in Europe from July.
