2018 BMW X3: Bigger, lower, lighter G01 is now even more generic

Yes, it looks like a BMW. In fact, it looks like every other BMW SUV. This is the new BMW X3, which is bigger, lower and lighter, and so very much the same.

At launch, the BMW X3 will only be available with one gas inline 6-cylinder engine (M40i), and on 6-cylinder inline turbo-diesel (xDrive 30d).

The M40i has 265kW (360hp) and 500Nm (369 lb-ft), and the xDrive 30d has 195kW (265hp) and 620kW (457 lb-ft). Both have an 8-speed auto.

Coming later is the xDrive 20d with a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel with 140kW (190hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft). 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines will also be available later.

The new G01 BMW X3 is 55kg (121 lb) lighter than the previous model, and there’s more technology too, including gesture control infotainment, Display Key, connected services, active cruise control, active aerodynamics with shutters and grilles, head up display, 10.2-inch touchscreen, and semi-autonomous driving modes.
