2017 Honda Civic Type R: Turbo hot hatch turns aggression up to 11

Coming summer 2017, the 10th generation Honda Civic Type R will go on sale around the world, and isn’t afraid to be angry, rice boy hot hatch.


The new Honda Civic Type R has a 2-liter turbocharged gas engine with 235kW (316hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft). The FWD hot hatch will be available only with rev matching 6-speed manual.

The 10th generation Type R is based on the UK built hatch that’s based on the sedan and coupe’s platform. The ninth generation Type R was based on the Europe only Civic hatch that was based on the Fit platform. Torsional rigidity is up 38 percent.

The 10th generation Civic’s front McPherson struts and multilink rear has been revised to limit torque steer. There are three drive modes (Comfort, Sport, and +R track mode) for the adaptive dampers, steering force, gear shift feeling and throttle response.

The new Civic Type R starts production in the summer 2017 at Honda’s Swindon, UK factory. The UK made hot hatch will be sold in Japan and US, and will be the first Honda badged Type R model sold in the US with an MSRP of around US$30,000.
