2016 Mazda CX-9: 2.5-liter turbo I4, 7 seats, high end interior

The second generation Mazda CX-9 looks sleek with its Kodo exterior, and has the highest class interior in a Mazda to date, and is the brand’s flagship passenger car.

The new CX-9 is shorter overall, but sits on a longer wheelbase, has more internal space, and has a windscreen base that sits further back for a longer hood look.

In place of the old car’s 3.7-liter Ford V6, the second generation CX-9 has a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder SkyActiv-G gas engine that makes 227hp (169kW) at 5,000rpm and 310 lb-ft (420Nm) at 2,000rpm.

The new CX-9 weighs around 198 lb (90kg) less than the first generation car, meaning it should be about 4,330 lb (1,964kg).

The CX-9 has standard LED headlights, and 7-inch infotainment system. Available is radar cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance, automatic high beam, 8-inch touchscreen, Bose sound system, and automated emergency braking.

An upgrade i-Active AWD system can deliver up to 50 percent of the 2.5-liter engine’s power to the rear wheels. A 6-speed automatic is standard.
