Volkswagen Amarok trademarked in US, is the midsize truck on its way?

The Volkswagen Amarok name has been trademarked in the USA, meaning the midsize pickup could be on its way here to take on the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier, and soon Ford Ranger.

Volkswagen has reregistered the name with the US Patent and Trademark Office, so it isn’t news the company wants to keep its options open for the midsize truck.

A lot would need to happen for the Amarok to be sold here, including building it in the US, Canada or Mexico in order to avoid the 25 percent chicken tax.

For a segment that was nearly dead a few years ago, the midsize truck segment will soon welcome the Ford Ranger to the party.
