Mahindra KUV100: SUV debuts 3-cylinder diesel, gas motors

The new Mahindra KUV100 enters the burgeoning small SUV market with new Ssangyong developed aluminum 1.2-liter turbo-diesel and gas engines.

The new engines are derived from the 1.6-liter units used in the Ssangyong Tivoli, and both feature a displacement of 1.2 liters. The gas version, branded mFalcon G80, has 82hp (61kW) and 85 lb-ft (115Nm), while the turbo-diesel version, known as the mFalcon D75, has 77hp (57kW) and 140 lb-ft (190Nm).

The new KUV100 sits below the larger TUV300 and XUV500, and the name is pronounced K-U-V-1-double-oh. The official launch of the car is scheduled for January 15, 2016.

The KUV100 will be available in seven colors: Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Designer Grey and Midnight Black. ABS is standard on all models, and dual airbags available throughout the range.

After Delhi banned SUVs will motors larger than 2 liters, the KUV100 sees Mahindra return to this very important market.
