Volkswagen vs GM: VW ahead in China car sales to end of July 2016

Thanks to a strong July, Volkswagen has overtaken General Motors in the automotive sales race in China. Both car makers have sold over 2 million cars there so far.


The Volkswagen Group has sold 2,148,000 cars in China from January to July 2016. That’s up 8 percent over this time last year.

Volkswagen’s three mainstream brands have seen increases during the month of July. Volkswagen sales were up 17 percent to 210,500, Skoda was up 16 percent to 21,400, and Audi jumped up 9.9 percent to 45,454.

General Motors is currently in second place, with the American car maker finding new Chinese homes for 2,081,005 cars in the period until the end of July.
