Volkswagen Golf R axed for 2020 in the USA

Volkswagen US is taking the axe to its Golf range, removing the wagon, Alltrack and R from the lineup, leaving just one base model and a bunch GTI variants.

Volkswagen US confirmed the Golf R’s axing in the US to Motor Authority, although both the GTI and R have been confirmed for North America when the Mark VIII is launched. Both the SportWagen and Alltrack Golf wagon models have already been confirmed as axed for 2020.

For 2020, the American Golf range consists of one Value Edition with a 1.4L turbo, 16″ wheels, Wi-Fi, keyless entry, and heated seats.

There’s also the GTI S and GTI SE with a 228hp (170kW) 2L turbo I4, and the e-Golf with an EPA range of 125mi (201km).
