Smart to become all electric by 2020

Smart will sell only electric cars by the end of the decade, Dieter Zetsche, Daimler’s CEO, has revealed at the company’s annual general meeting.

The brand has already shifted to an all electric strategy in the US and Canada for the 2018 model year.

The ForTwo Electric Drive and ForFour Electric Drive models are already available in Europe and other markets, and feature a 60kW (81hp) electric motor, RWD, and a 1-speed gearbox. Range is 160km (100mi), and with the built in faster charger the battery can refilled in 2.5 hours.
