Polestar 3: Electric SUV to be made in the USA and China

Polestar will be build its next model, the 3 SUV, at Volvo’s factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina, for North American customers.

The new electric SUV will be made in the USA because tariffs for cars imported from China are high, and have pushed pricing for the Polestar 2 beyond that of the Tesla Model 3 that it’s competing against.

“Production in the USA reduces delivery times as well as the environmental impact associated with shipping vehicles around the world. It will even have a positive impact on the price of Polestar 3,” Dennis Nobelius, Polestar’s COO, claims.

“All of this makes the brand even more competitive in the critical American sales market.”

Production of the new SUV will begin in 2022, but has yet to be revealed or detailed.

The Polestar 3 will be the first Polestar to have styling that’s distinct from the Volvo vehicles and platforms it shares components with. Styling is expected to be influenced by the Precept concept (above).
