ND Mazda MX-5 will not gain turbo or supercharger

The ND Mazda MX-5 will not got more engine options, a more powerful variant, nor will the program manager entertain the idea of a turbo or supercharger.

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Nobuhiro Yamamoto told Top Gear: “It’s important not to get hung up on numbers. Not on power, or torque. No, what is more important is the feeling. The driving experience and feeling is more important than power. In my mind it just has to be fun to drive.”

“I never considered using a turbo,” he added, “because naturally aspirated engines are just nice, especially for this kind of car.”

The MX-5 is available with a 96kW/129hp 1.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 117kW/158hp 2-liter. Only the 2-liter car will be sold in the US.
