Lincoln MKS will die in 2016, replaced by Continental

Ford says that the Lincoln MKS will be phased out of production in 2016. It’s space on the production line in Chicago replaced by more Explorers.

Ford told USA Today: “Chicago Assembly Plant is vital to our global manufacturing footprint and will continue to manufacture the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor vehicles even after we phase out production of the MKS in 2016. We will continue to match production to demand.”

It’s widely expected that the MKS will be eventually replaced by a car based on the FWD/AWD Continental concept shown at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

A Ford exec said earlier this year that Lincoln will likely shift away from its current alphabet soup (MKS, MKZ, MKT and MKC) to names that recall the company’s history.
