The CR-Z is Honda’s idea of a fun-to-drive, sporty hybrid car, but what do the letters in its name mean? Hint: It has nothing to do with Dragonball-Z.
Clearly the name is a tip of the hat to the much loved, but long gone, CR-X. The more modern CR-Z even apes the original CR-X’s overall shape.
The letters CR-Z stand for Compact Renaissance Zero.
No, the zero isn’t a reference to zero emissions, because with the car’s mild hybrid system, you’d need to be crawling downhill for the CR-Z to be ever considered a zero emissions vehicle.
According to Honda, “The original ambition to create a new compact car, the challenge is going back to the origin (zero)”.
