Ford Taurus production ends in the US, continues in China

After 34 years, Ford Taurus production at the company’s plant in Chicago has ended, marking the end of the large family sedan in the US.

The Taurus name lives on, though, in China, where a new model (below) is already in production. Based on the Ford Fusion/Mondeo platform, the China only Taurus is aimed at business people who like to be driven around.

Once America’s most popular passenger car, the Taurus never recovered from its oval mad third generation.

In the US, the large sedan market is also collapsing as buyers keep buying SUVs instead.

That’s why production of the Taurus is ending. The Focus, Fiesta and, later, the Fusion will also disappear from Ford’s US lineup, leaving only SUVs and the Mustang.
